SharePoint Information Architecture
What is it?
A consultancy exercise, pulling together all the business configuration information for SharePoint, so that once MOSS has been delivered from a technical standpoint, it can be set up to match business requirements. N.b. this is not a technical issue.
Information typically gathered includes:
- Access rights – i.e. controlling who can see what;
- Numbers & types of ‘teamsites’;
- Roles & responsibilities and who will carry them out;
- Configuration of document, records and process management, if functionality deployed.
SCL can either carry out the configuration work, or else will be happy to work with your tech team or outsourced provider to give you the solution that delivers to the business requirements.
This service offering assumes your existing technology provider has not done this work!
Why do it?
Typically there is a gap between the technical implementation and tools like SharePoint being ready for business use.
This gap leads to a loss of momentum and credibility for the application roll-out, and frustration on behalf of senior Management.
It usually also means you’re not gaining the business benefits you expected from the new system.
What are the benefits?
Having a system which is ‘fit for purpose’ right from the off – implicitly giving confidence to users, and setting the foundation for getting the most out of the MOSS roll-out.
Ensuring a close match to business requirements helps ensure maximum Return on Investment.
