The Difference Engine Case Study
Situation
Souter Consulting Limited was approached by Jon Bradford, MD of The Difference Engine, to help him manage the social media elements of the launch of this new ‘mentor-led acceleration programme for digital businesses’.
In doing so, Jon was looking to attract teams to apply for one of the 10 places available on the programme which offered £20k of seed funding and also 13 weeks of mentoring, to be run from a location in the North East of England.
Many of the potential applicants were familiar with social media, and use these tools regularly to communicate with peers and stakeholders, and also to market their own start-up businesses and service their customers.
What SCL did
- Created a database of key European entpreneurship contacts
- Sent out targeted mail campaign to make contact with these influencers to see whether they wanted to apply for the programme, and / or whether they would be willing to tell their network about The Difference Engine.
- Dealt with feedback and helped during the application period over Christmas and the New Year.
- Helped push out the social media message for The Difference Engine on a variety of channels
- Managed the social media communications whilst Jon was overseas and off line.
What difference did it make
- Helped Jon reach critical mass in terms of numbers of applicants – i.e. have sufficient numbers of teams applying, of sufficient quality, to make the first intake a success
- Ensuring continuity of communications during this busy launch period
- Helped create initial momentum, awareness, and buzz for the programme
